Santander reaps the benefits of team volunteering

Santander UK has found that team volunteering via its Discovery Days programme has proved invaluable.

In 2010, over 1,000 staff took part in 88 Discovery Days, since working with CCWorks, this has grown to over 500 Discovery Days in 2016. 

Working with CCWorks, Santander created a new process to improve and simplify management of the programme. This was achieved through:

  • The  introduction of pre-sourced opportunities across all key Santander locations in  the UK. Projects were sourced and refreshed on a quarterly basis.
  • The development of a customised database for staff to browse opportunities.
  • An improved booking process to ensure that staff were committed to the event and that cancellations were minimised by introducing a ‘reserve a project’ option.
  • Timely communication - email feedback forms were sent the day after a Community Day had been completed.  Survey Monkey, the online survey software, was used to make feedback quicker and simpler for employees and community organisations.
  • Data collation – the new database was used to capture and record results giving increased access to results and impacts.
